Canton native Da’Varius Jackson recently joined the Holmes Community College Ridgeland Campus as the new police chief. He comes to Holmes after eight years working for the University of Mississippi Medical Center (UMMC) police department. 

A Holmes alumnus, Jackson earned an Associate of Arts from the college and played wide receiver for the Bulldogs for two years. Following graduation from Holmes, he obtained a Bachelor of Science from Jackson State University and became a member of Phi Beta Sigma fraternity. 

Jackson rose through the ranks of police officer, sergeant then captain while serving in three local Mississippi police departments; the Canton Police Department, Hinds Community College Campus Police and most recently, at UMMC. In 2011, Chief Jackson was awarded Canton PD’s Top Cop as well as the department’s Humanitarian Award. In his most recent role, he assumed command over the Patrol Division, where his responsibilities included overseeing ARMS report system, managing employee deployment, special operations, fire arms instructor, preliminary investigations and Clery crime reports.
