Former Madison County area baseball stars Konnor Griffin and Braden Montgomery were selected to the MLB Futures Game, the league announced Monday.

The Futures Game features the elite prospects in all of baseball and is held in conjunction with MLB All-Star Weekend.

Konnor Griffin, a Jackson Prep alum, has had an eye-popping first professional season, after being the first high school player selected with the ninth overall pick by the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Griffin started the 2025 season with the Low-A Bradenton Marauders and put up an impressive statline, including a .338 batting average, 9 home runs, 36 RBIs, and 26 stolen bases in 50 games.

Griffin was called up to the Pirates’ High-A affiliate, the Greensboro Grasshoppers, on June 8th. Since being called up, Griffin has continued to shine, putting up a .358 batting average, 3 home runs, 12 RBIs, and 11 stolen bases in 17 games.

After his hot first half of the season, Griffin has worked his way up to the 31st-ranked prospect in all of baseball and the second-ranked prospect in the Pittsburgh organization, according to MLB.com, and should only continue to rise in the rankings as the season goes along.

Former Madison Central baseball star Braden Montgomery has found success in his first professional season, following recovery from a fractured ankle he suffered during last season’s NCAA tournament with Texas A&M, being drafted 12th overall by the Boston Red Sox, and then being traded to the Chicago White Sox.

Montgomery started the season with the Low-A Kannapolis Cannon Ballers, putting up a .304 batting average, 3 home runs, 19 RBIs, and 6 stolen bases in 18 games.

Montgomery was called up to the High-A Winston-Salem Dash on April 28th and has hit for a .263 batting average, along with 7 home runs, 30 RBIs, and 3 stolen bases in 52 games.

Montgomery is currently the 32nd-ranked prospect in all of baseball and the fourth-ranked prospect in the White Sox organization, according to MLB.com.

The two local products faced off in a series from June 24th-June 29th in a series between the Dash and the Grasshoppers.

The Futures Game will take place on Saturday, July 12, at Truist Park in Atlanta, with first pitch set for 3 PM Central Time. The game will be broadcasted live on MLB Network.
