KidStrong coming to Calhoun Station

A Madison County native hopes to bring a unique training program for young children to Gluckstadt.

Xan Carr and his wife Jasmine are working to bring KidStrong here. Xan Carr said KidStrong is a national brand that offers classes for kids ages 14 months to 11 years old. He said their program builds “strong, confident and high-character kids.”

“We want to build kids confidence and character,” Carr said. “We emphasize things like shaking hands and looking adults in the eye.”

The program offers weekly classes during the week led by trained professional coaches and hosts birthday parties on the weekends. They also offer camps when the local schools are not in session.

“We encourage parents to stick around for our classes,” Xan Carr said. “It is a fun filled environment with parents watching and cheering.”

Xan is the son of Cheryl and Terry Carr who have lived in Madison County for 40 years. Xan Carr is a 1998 graduate of Madison Central High School.

Xan and Jasmine have four kids: Kaiden, 12, Caroline 10, and the eight year old twins Sawyer and Savannah. The family lives in Louisiana just outside Baton Rouge.

Xan said he has seen the benefits of KidStrong classes in his own kids.

KidStrong is slated for 203 Calhoun Station Parkway. Carr said they are still building out the interior of their building but hope to be open sometime in the next three months.

Carr said there are a total of 137 open KidStrong facilities nationwide with “many more in development.”

This will be the Carr’s ninth location and hope it will be part of a further expansion into MIssissippi. They already have locations in Birmingham, the Kansas City area and a total of four across the state of Louisiana. Carr said they are already working on future plans to expand into Flowood and Hattiesburg.
