Canton senior Jamarion Davis-Fleming was named the Mississippi Gatorade Player of the Year for basketball for the 2024-2025 season.

The prestigious award is given to the best overall player in each state around the country and Davis-Fleming becomes the first player in Canton basketball history to win the award. The award criteria also includes excellence in the classroom and in the community.

Other notable NBA and college stars to win the award from Mississippi include Mo Williams, Travis Outlaw, Al Jefferson, Rodney Hood, Devin Booker, DJ Jeffries, and Josh Hubbard.

Davis-Fleming put together a monster senior season, averaging 25 points, 13 rebounds, 4 blocks, and 4 assists on the year, while also leading Canton to their second consecutive 5A state title. The Tigers finished with a 21-10 record on the season.

After finishing his career as one of the most decorated athletes in Canton High School history, Davis-Fleming will now shift his focus to Mississippi State, where he will begin his collegiate career next season.

Davis-Fleming is a 6’9 center that is ranked as a four-star recruit and  the 89th best recruit nationally by 247Sports. He chose to play for the Bulldogs over offers from schools like LSU, Alabama, and Wake Forest.

Mississippi State has found success over the last few seasons under Head Coach Chris Jans, earning a NCAA tournament bid this year. Davis-Fleming has said in the past that his relationship with Jans and his coaching style were a major part in his decision.

Davis-Fleming will join last season’s Mississippi Gatorade Player of the Year, Eric Paymon from Raymond, on the Bulldogs roster as well.
