Former Jackson Academy star quarterback, Kinkead Dent, signed as an undrafted free agent with the Jacksonville Jaguars, the team announced over the weekend.

After starting his collegiate career at Ole Miss, Dent has thrived over the last two seasons as the starting quarterback at UT-Martin, earning an opportunity to play football at the next level.

At Jackson Academy, Dent had a stellar career, throwing for 3,855 yards and running for 1,757 yards, with 60 total touchdowns for the Raiders.

Dent led Jackson Academy to the MAIS 6A state semifinals in his senior season, and was named to the MAIS 6A All-State team. He was a unanimous three-star recruit coming out of high school and the top-ranked pro-style quarterback in Mississippi in the class of 2019, choosing Ole Miss over offers from Arkansas State, UL-Monroe, South Alabama, and Western Kentucky.

After his time at Jackson Academy, Dent played four seasons at Ole Miss and primarily served as the team’s holder during his career with the Rebels, but did see limited action at quarterback. Dent saw action in 17 total games in four years for Ole Miss.

Dent then transferred to UT-Martin, where he has spent the last two seasons, and was one of the best quarterbacks in the FCS for the Skyhawks, leading the program to new heights under center.

During his time at UT-Martin, Dent threw for 4,800 yards and 46 touchdowns, which were good for seventh and fourth in program history. Dent was also named to two all-conference teams and led the Skyhawks to back-to-back conference titles and the second postseason win in program history.

Now, Dent will get his shot at the professional level and will be one of two quarterbacks going through Rookie Minicamp for the Jaguars, with the other being former Memphis quarterback Seth Henigan.
