Hundreds without power Sunday

RIDGELAND — A one-vehicle accident on Richardson Road Sunday morning left hundreds without power after 200-300 yards of power lines were mowed downed, police said.

Ridgeland Police Lt. Tony Willridge said that the wreck happened just before 9 a.m. on July 5 when a driver lost control of his vehicle. The vehicle hit several power poles, snapping one in two and downing between 200 and 300 yards of line.

“It took several hours to reopen the road,” Willridge said. “There were live power lines on scene and we could not get a wrecker in to move the overturned vehicle until those were clear.”

The name of the driver was not released.

The road was closed for almost 15 hours and the scene was not fully cleared until early morning Monday. Willridge said that the driver was the only occupant. There were no serious injuries and no charges are associated with the incident at this time.

The affected area was between Red Eagle Circle and Canterbury Circle on Richardson Road. 

Entergy released a notification that the outages impacted about 233 customers.
