MADISON — Hoy Road is finally taking shape, the mayor says, and the improvements are expected to greatly improve traffic flow by the spring.

“After many years of negotiations it is exciting to see the project take shape and see a change in the flow of traffic,” said Madison Mayor Hawkins-Butler. “I believe the residents will be pleased.”

The improvement project was originally projected to be completed in the spring of 2022 and is on schedule, officials said..

Stan Wright, Hoy Road project engineer with Neel Schaffer Engineering, said the project is “on schedule,” and he expects the work to be completed early next year.

Hemphill Construction, began work on the $9 million project in September 2020.

The project includes improvements to the intersection of Hoy and Rice/Tisdale Road; curb, gutter and sidewalk improvements; a multi-use path; and the widening of Hoy Road to five lanes from Old Canton Road to Victoria Place.

From there it will remain two lanes to the east. The widening project has left that section of the road westbound only for much of the project.

Hoy Road remains open for westbound traffic only from Rice Road to Old Canton Road, with Tisdale Road as the detour route.
