Highway Patrol investigating wreck on Hwy. 16

A two-vehicle wreck on Highway 16 near John Day Road resulting in injuries early Wednesday morning is being investigated by the Mississippi Highway Patrol.

Troop C Corporal Marcus White said that just after 6 a.m., MHP was advised of the two-vehicle accident.

White reported that the vehicles involved were a white 2017 Ford F-150 and a white Volvo semi truck.

He said the F-150 was traveling west on Highway 16 near John Day Road when the Volvo semi truck was traveling eastbound on Highway 16. The white Ford F-150, crossed over into the eastbound traffic lane and collided with the White Volvo semi truck.

The Ford F-150 then left the road and collided with a tree. The Volvo semi truck crossed over into the westbound traffic lanes and drove off the right side of the road and collided with a tree.

Two injuries were reported. White said that the driver of the F-150 was airlifted to UMMC. The driver of the Volvo was transported by ambulance to Merit Health in Canton.

This case remains under investigation.
