High-speed fugitive case heading to grand jury

An Oklahoma fugitive arrested by Madison Police after a high-speed chase that ended in Gluckstadt last month will go before a grand jury in January, authorities said.

Thomas Wesley Cofer, 31, of Hugo, Oklahoma, was arrested and charged with fleeing law enforcement, felon carrying a concealed weapon and receiving stolen property.

He remains in the Madison County Jail.

Madison Police Lt. Micah Taylor said there are no new updates on Cofer’s case and that he will be presented to the next Madison County grand jury.

Cofer was arrested on Wednesday, Nov. 17. According to Madison Police, at about 9:45 a.m. they eceived a report of a stolen vehicle in the area and a short time later officers observed the stolen 2017 Dodge Ram 1500 pick-up truck traveling west at Highway 463 and Interstate 55.

Officers attempted to stop the stolen vehicle at Highway 463 and Bozeman Road at which time the driver fled, MPD reported.

When the fleeing vehicle reached Gluckstadt Road and Highway 463, the driver lost control of the vehicle and ran off the roadway into a field.

He was later identified as an escapee from an Oklahoma jail.
