Hazardous waste program Saturday
Madison County residents will be able to dispose of hazardous items at an event sponsored by the county and municipalities this weekend at Northpark.
The event will allow Madison County residents to dispose of hazardous or unusual items at no charge, Madison County spokesman Heath Hall said. The event will be held on Ring Road at Northpark between 8 a.m. and 12 p.m. on March 22.
“This is an excellent opportunity for anyone in Madison County to dispose of hazardous items that cannot be put out at the curb,” Hall said. “It is free to residents of Madison County.”
Hall said this is the sixth year the county has sponsored this event.
Acceptable items include documents for shredding, paint, batteries, as well as certain chemicals and electronics.
The event is sponsored by the city of Ridgeland, Madison County and the city of Madison.
“We are very thankful to all the sponsors and vendors who have come together to make this day possible,” Hall said. “Madison County Household Hazardous Waste Day is an important opportunity for anyone in Madison County to properly dispose hazardous waste that cannot be put to the curb. This opportunity is free to all residents of Madison County.”
A complete list of acceptable and unacceptable items is available through the county.
Unacceptable items include washers, dryers, air conditioners, grills, light bulbs, medical waste, radioactive waste, refrigerators, thermostats and dishwashers.
Anyone with questions or seeking further information is encouraged to call Ridgeland Public Works at (601) 853-2027. Volunteer opportunities are available as well.
