Harvey Price Carr, Jr. died peacefully on Monday, March 29, 2021 at St. Catherine’s Village in Madison, MS.  He was 78 years old.  Harvey is survived by his sons John Robert “Robby” Carr (Suzanne) of Ridgeland, and William Chadley “Chad” Carr (Elizabeth) of Canton; his beloved grandchildren Jack, Sam, Will, and Molly Carr; his step-grandchildren Kaley and Bradley Edwards; sister Frances Lusk; and a host of family and friends.

Harvey, a lifelong Ridgeland resident, was born April 15, 1942, and was a member of First United Methodist Church of Ridgeland. His love of sports lasted throughout his life and was evident in his extensive involvement in football, basketball, baseball, boxing, track, and rabbit hunting. Before graduating from Madison Ridgeland High School in 1960, Harvey was voted Most Athletic, Football Co-Captain, and Campus Favorite. He was also involved in 4H.  After graduation he played football at Holmes Community College and served in the National Guard.

Harvey was a steady and reliable leader in Ridgeland, serving as a long-time city alderman for Ward 1. He was also regarded as a favorite little league and pony league baseball coach for decades. He could be seen at almost any local sporting event, but he especially enjoyed his sons’ and grandson Jack’s baseball and football games.

During Harvey’s career working at Madison County Schools, he was known as a kind and goodhearted man who could be found whistling up and down the school halls making friends while he worked. After Harvey retired, he spent time traveling the mid-south with his friends and his beagles competing in field trials.  Harvey was a steadfast friend to everyone he met and was known for his quick visits all around town.  Before his illness affected him, he enjoyed mowing his family and friends’ yards, one of his favorite activities.

Harvey is preceded in death by his father Harvey Price Carr, Sr.; mother Helen Capticomb Carr; step-mother Hilda “Bessie” Adcock Carr; sister Mary Carr McCraw; former wife Shirley Carr Thompson; and daughter Alison Carr.  The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to the Campbell Cove and Sienna II staff at St. Catherine’s, along with the wonderful staff at Kindred Hospice.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to First United Methodist Church, 234 West Jackson St., Ridgeland MS 39157.  A visitation will be held on Friday April 2nd at Parkway Funeral Home on Highland Colony Parkway in Ridgeland from 10:00-11:00 am with a graveside service immediately following at Jessamine Cemetery, 170 Trace Ridge, Ridgeland.
