Madison County Schools recently announced that Jay Harrison will serve the district as an Assistant Superintendent. For 25 years Harrison has worked in the education profession, serving as a coach, teacher, assistant principal, and currently as the Director of Operations for Madison County Schools.

“I am thrilled and honored to serve as Assistant Superintendent. I extend my heartfelt thanks to the leadership of Madison County Schools for entrusting me with this vital role in shaping the future of our district. Madison County Schools has been home to my family and me for 18 years, and I am excited to continue working alongside dedicated educators, administrators, parents, and students to keep moving the Mark of Excellence forward,” says Harrison.

A familiar face throughout Madison County Schools, Harrison has directed the operation of 23 district campuses and buildings since 2016, supervising a staff of 25 and managing projects to improve facilities. In his current role he has overseen numerous contracts and is an integral part of major construction projects across the district.

“Jay is a natural fit to serve the district at the next level. He knows everything there is to know about our facilities, and more importantly, he is beloved by the people of Madison County Schools who know him as a tireless and dedicated servant leader. We have full faith that Jay will make an outstanding Assistant Superintendent,” says Madison County Schools Deputy Superintendent Ted Poore.

Harrison earned a Bachelor of General Studies from Louisiana Tech University and a master’s in educational leadership from the University of Southern Mississippi. He earned certification through the National Institute for School Leadership and was named Mississippi’s Assistant Principal of the Year in 2014. Dedicated in the classroom and on the field, Harrison has earned numerous coaching accolades including being named the Mississippi Association of Coaches North Boys’ All-Star Soccer Coach in 2006 and South Boys’ All Star Soccer Coach in 2002. He was named Coach of the Year by the Vicksburg Post in 2000.

Active in the community, Harrison has volunteered with Boy Scouts of America Troop 164, Kicks for Kids Soccer Camp, Special Olympics, and Mississippi Blood Services, and his family is a proud Ambassador Family for the March of Dimes. He and his wife Sally have been married for 24 years. They are proud parents of twins Hank and Hayden, both graduates of Madison County Schools who currently attend Mississippi State University, and Evey, a sixth grader at Madison Middle School.

Harrison will begin serving in his new role on July 1 when current Assistant Superintendent Richard Burge retires from the district.
