GLUCKSTADT —  A Sardis man driving a stolen truck was arrested here after leading police on a brief chase.

The man, Anthony Albert Sims, 55, was arrested and charged with fleeing law enforcement, failure to stop, and receiving stolen property, Gluckstadt Police Chief Barry Hale said.

Hale said Sims has been given a $650,000 bond but noted a number of other agencies have placed holds on him for crimes in their jurisdiction.

On Friday, Feb. 21, at 1:13 p.m., Gluckstadt police officers spotted a stolen silver Ford Dually entering the interstate northbound at Gluckstadt Road, Hale said.

The vehicle was reported stolen out of Oxford on Feb 19.

“When officers attempted to stop the vehicle, it failed to do so, leading to a pursuit northbound,” Hale said.

The chase continued until the vehicle crossed the median near the 124-mile marker at Pisgah Bottom Road. Hale said the driver of the stolen vehicle then attempted to reverse direction and eventually got stuck on the side of the road.

Sims then fled on foot into the woods and was soon captured after attempting to escape by jumping into a creek.

According to Hale, Sims was arrested at 1:27 p.m.

Hale said the Madison County Sheriff’s Department assisted in the chase and arrest.
