The Gluckstadt Police Department continues to add to its ranks with its first female officer joining the force Tuesday night.

Officer Sage Bowman was sworn in at the end of Gluckstadt’s Aug. 9 Mayor and Board of Alderman meeting after they unanimously approved Bowman’s hiring at $36,000 a year plus benefits.

Police Chief Wendell Watts introduced her, and she was already in uniform.

Watts said that Bowman, while being the first female officer to join the force, speaks Spanish and Chinese and is from the Hinds County Sheriff’s Department.

“I’m looking forward to working with her, and she’s going to be a great asset,” Watts said.

Watts said the department is working on the municipal court and setting up a new evidence room at City Hall.

“We’re very excited about this and we’re moving forward fast,” he said. “It’s an amazing thing to see so many people come and offer assistance with this.”

In other matters, the board:

• Unanimously approved a site plan for a new Trustmark National Bank on the northwest corner of Gluckstadt Road and Calhoun Station Parkway.

• Approved the adoption of an amendment to zoning ordinance text regulating the distance between future locations of package liquor stores and hours of operation with a 3-2 vote.

• Approved a 36-month lease for an audiovisual proposal quote at $570.31 a month to livestream board meetings.
