GLUCKSTADT — A new grocery store is planned for the growing community, officials announced recently.

Sullivan’s Marketplace is planned for a 35,000 square foot site on the west side of Calhoun Station Parkway.

Sullivan’s Marketplace will be a family-owned grocery market with local produce, a butcher shop, and will have outside patio dining for lunches. The design of the store will complement the design of nearby St. Joseph Catholic Church.

“I think this will be a great addition to the Gluckstadt community,” Kerry Minninger, a longtime Gluckstadt resident said.

Lisa Williams, who will be one of the first aldermen for Gluckstadt if a pending incorporation is successful, said the tentative plans are for the grocery store to open by next summer.

Sullivan’s currently has a grocery store in Flora, as well as 10 other locations in Mississippi, Arkansas and Louisiana. Sullivan’s was founded in 2005 in New Hebron, and has continued to expand from there.

Carol McCarty shared her excitement for the new business on Facebook.

“I shop at Sullivan’s whenever I visit family in Flora,” she said. “Easy in and out when I’m in a hurry...”

The Madison County Planning & Zoning Board is set to vote on approval of a site plan for the grocery store today (Thursday).

Attempts to contact Sullivan’s for comment were unsuccessful.
