GLUCKSTADT —  The mayor says that they hope to have a police chief hired “sooner rather than later” as they continue to review resumes and interview candidates.

Mayor Walter Morrison said that they have “no date drawn in the sand” but hope to hire a police chief “sooner rather than later.”

Morrison said that they have received between 25 and 30 resumes and since their specially held meeting on Jan. 12 have interviewed about six candidates.

“We want to do our best to get this right,” Morrison said.

At their most recent regular meeting on Jan. 11, aldermen accepted flags for use in their board room from former Flora Police Chief Dwayne Moak.

“The first thing I put in my office when I became chief was those two flags,” Moak said at the meeting.

City officials accepted additional donations of furniture, chairs and filing cabinets from the city of Ridgeland.

In other board action:

• Discussed a city ordinance establishing regular meetings on the second Tuesday of each month. After the ordinance is drafted it will go before the board for approval at a future meeting.

• Approved a contract to purchase security for the City Hall building on Distribution Drive from Pennington Security Services in the amount of $7,285 plus an annual fee.

• Approved the purchase of iPads for the Board of Aldermen in the amount of $2,471.

• Approved the city’s first building code and a schedule of fees for applying for building permits in the city. The city adopted the 2018 international Building Code on recommendation form Building Official Jeff Williamson.
