GLUCKSTADT — City officials officially recognized the Germantown High School Marching Band’s state championship win Tuesday night with band director Justin Harvison in attendance.

Alderman Lisa Williams called Harvison in front of the board to recognize their accomplishments.

“I asked Justin to be with us here tonight and hopefully the board will adopt a resolution to recognize the Germantown High School Marching Band as they have been recently named the 6A State Champions of the 2022 MHSAA and MBDA Championship,” Williams said.

She said the band qualified and earned superior ratings at their region four marching evaluations, and recently competed against 17 other high school bands across the state in the championship on Oct. 22.

“The band was named grand champions and gold medal winners with a composite score of 91.7 out of 100,” she said. “They were also awarded first place color guard and first place general effect, second place visual performance, and first place music performance.”

Harvison said the 17 other bands Germantown competed against were all 6A, from DeSoto all the way down to Harrison County.

“This is our third state championship since the school opened, and the previous two were when we were in 5A,” Harvison said. “We moved up to 6A four years ago.”

Williams made a motion to adopt a resolution to recognize the band, and alderwoman Miya Bates seconded the motion. The resolution passed with a unanimous vote.
