Girls’ Day at the Capitol a success

The Mississippi State Capitol was filled with pink, purpose, and promise on Thursday as young girls from Madison gathered for Girls’ Day 2025, an annual event designed to inspire and empower the next generation of female leaders.

Hosted by Rep. Jill Ford of Madison County, the event welcomed dozens of bright and curious young women for a day of exploration, education, and encouragement within the halls of state government.

“Watching these girls ask thoughtful questions, learn how laws are made, and walk with confidence through our Capitol reminded me why investing in them is so important,” said Ford. “They are the future leaders of Mississippi.”

The day featured a powerful lineup of speakers including  Attorney General Lynn Fitch, Miss Mississippi 2024 Anna Leah Jolly, Miss Mississippi’s Teen Avery McNair, Senator Nicole Boyd and Representative Celeste Hurst.

“These women didn’t just speak—they connected,” said Ford. “They showed these girls what’s possible.”

The celebration was made even more festive by community partners who helped make the girls feel truly special. Whimsy Cookie Co. in Ridgeland provided beautifully decorated heart-shaped cookies, Gifts by KPEP created a balloon backdrop for perfect photo moments, and Ballet Mississippi added a touch of grace with ballerinas who performed and posed with the guests.

From dressing up to taking photos, every detail was meant to leave a lasting memory. “This day was filled with excitement, encouragement, and elegance,” said Ford. “I know they will always remember how it felt to be seen, celebrated, and inspired.”
