Madison Countian’s last chance for free trees is Saturday at the Colony Crossing Kroger in Madison.

The Madison County Soil and Water Conservation District, is giving away free trees as well as offering some for purchase on Saturday, Feb. 5, at the Colony Crossing Kroger from 9:30 a.m. or until all their trees are gone.

Today they are in front of Ridgeland City Hall from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. This preceded stops in Canton and Flora earlier in the week.

District administrator Celia Miller said that they have about 3,500 trees total to get rid of. She said they have been doing the tree giveaway since 1977 and have distributed about a million trees in that time.

“We do this as a community service,” Miller said. “Planting trees can help prevent erosion and replaces trees we have lost throughout the years.”

Giveaway bundles include White Oak, Myrtle Oak and Red Maple tree saplings. They also have flowering tree bundles on offer. These include Red Crepe Myrtles and Flowering Dogwoods for $5. Red Delicious Apple bundles are $20.
