Frame shop flourishing in Madison

MADISON — Eric Norris loves having his  Image Gallery Frame Shop here because it’s a family affair and he loves his customers.

Norris originally opened his frame shop in October 1984 next to Madison Cellars on Highway 51.

In February, he move down the shopping center next to Ice and Vice, and had a grand reopening with a ribbon cutting on Oct. 6.

“I had a frame shop in Rankin County and I decided to move to Madison in 1984 since I saw the city was growing,” Norris said. “I also noticed there were no frame shops here. Now I wouldn’t want my business anywhere else. I love it here.”

Norris began his career making frames when he was just 14. He helped a lady he knew who had a frame shop one day since she was very busy, and at the end of the day, she offered him a job.

“She hired me and that’s all I’ve ever done since, and I’m almost 60,” Norris said.

The Image Gallery Frame Shop offers custom made and ready-made frames for customers, along with artwork and corporate work.

Norris said his shop stands out because customers get more bang for their buck.

“I only sell quality moldings, and I give you more than what you pay for,” he said. “We do a lot more to the end product than a lot of other frame shops do.”

He said his favorite aspect of being in Madison is the customers.

“I love having my business here, since everyone is great and very friendly,” Norris said. “I’ve had other cities approach me and ask if I would consider moving but I turned them down. Madison has been too good to us. I've become friends with the customers. I know their kids, I know their spouses, I know it all. I sometimes feel like a bartender here.”

Norris said that despite the pandemic and the new location, traffic in his store has only increased and things have gotten better ever since he moved.

“We’ve endured through things like the financial crash in 2008 and COVID, and business even increased during the pandemic since people couldn’t go on trips,” Norris said. “Instead they spent their time working on the interiors of their houses.”

“I opened this business with my parents, Dwight and Carol Norris, and while my dad passed away, my mom still comes in here and helps me every now and then,” he said. "She’s 85 and still kicking. We love it here, and we hope you come in.”

The Image Gallery Frame shop is located at 1022 Highway 51, Suite 600 in Madison. For more information, call 601-853-3900.
