Former MSU administrator reconnects with students
Dr. Jimmy W. Abraham hosted Jimmy’s Kids in Madison
A retired Mississippi State University administrator known for his close relationships with students is on a reunion tour across the state, including a stop in Madison earlier this month to reconnect with his “kids.”
Dr. Jimmy W. Abraham, a former MSU administrator and motivational speaker, hosted a Jimmy’s Kids event at Madison Methodist Church on June 5. The event was part of a multi-state tour to viasit with hundreds of former students he advised in university programs over several decades.
“I selfishly want to see and visit with them and their loved ones, and two, I want them to visit with each other,” Abraham said of his reasons for organizing the tour, which is not sponsored by the university.
Abraham said he has maintained contact with nearly all of the 1,064 students he advised in three MSU programs: Roadrunners (1982-2000), Orientation Leaders (1979-1998), and Alumni Delegates (2006-2013).
“It is something that I do to always keep up with my former students who mean so much to me,” Abraham said.
Through the years, he has hosted Christmas parties, group Zoom calls, and a similar 15-city tour in 2017. He has also held events in Starkville for the children of his former students who have since enrolled at MSU.
The current tour began in Hoover, Ala., on June 3. After the Madison event, subsequent stops were made in Starkville, Tupelo, and Hattiesburg. The tour is scheduled to continue this week with events in Brentwood and Germantown, Tenn.
