GLUCKSTADT —  A new florist set to open on the Calhoun Station Parkway said the Gluckstadt-Madison Business Alliance drew her here.

“They just cultivate the kind of atmosphere I am looking for as a business owner,” said Elizabeth Johnson.

Johnson and her daughter, Abigail Landry, own Square Floral Company in Kosciusko. They are opening a second shop here called Blume.

Blume is the German word for flower.

“I thought it was appropriate (for Gluckstadt),” Johnson said.

Blume will be home to a full-service florist capable of providing flowers for any number of events. Johnson said they will also offer a a full-service bridal registry. Johnson and her daughter have over 15 years of floral experience.

The new location will be at 264 Calhoun Station Parkway. They have a target opening toward the end of January.

“We hope to be in full bloom in time for Valentine’s Day,” Johnson said.

About a year ago last summer, a second shop was a far-off notion. But Johnson was connected to the Gluckstadt-Madison Business Alliance by an old friend and soon attended a Business Alliance event in June 2024.

“I was blown away,” Johnson said.

Specifically, Johnson said, director Elizabeth Tyler, was a strong force in bringing her to the Lucky City.

“She has done a phenomenal job recruiting businesses,” Johnson said.

Whatever problem she needed to solve, Tyler was able to find someone who could solve that problem in Gluckstadt.
