Fire kills woman by smoke inhalation
MADISON — A woman died of smoke inhalation in a house fire here Tuesday morning.
The woman was identified as Lois Fish, 79, according to Madison County Deputy Coroner Joel Shows.
Madison Police Lt. Micah Taylor said they are still working to identify the cause of the fire that occurred at a residence on Spring Hill Drive off Hoy Road.
“The Investigation remains ongoing as the State Fire Marshal’s Office has been called in to assist,” Taylor said.
Taylor said Fish and her 35-year-old son were transported to the University of Mississippi Medical Center.
Fish was pronounced dead on arrival. Taylor said the man is expected to make a full recovery.
On May 13, at 10:22 a.m., the Madison Fire Department received a 9-1-1 call about a house on Spring Hill Drive that was fully engulfed with an elderly female still inside, Madison Fire Chief Derrick Layton said.
Both Madison fire and police personnel responded to the scene and quickly began rescue efforts to locate the woman.
The adult male was outside in the driveway when first responders arrived, Layton said. He was treated on scene and later transported by Pafford EMS to UMMC.
Layton said the call was an “all-day” affair for first responders. The scene was cleared about 4 p.m.
