Fake money fraudsters arrested
A North Carolina trio faces fraud and conspiracy charges for trying to pass fake money here after their arrest in Texas last week.
The three suspects are identified as Alice Faye Fisher, 67, of Fayetteville, NC, Marlita Aeysha Williams, 45, of Hope Mills, NC, and Tylec Raquon Williams, 26, of Hope Mills, NC, Madison Police Lieutenant Micah Taylor said.
Taylor said the trio was arrested in Smith County, Texas, late on the evening of March 25.
“The Madison Police Department would like to thank the Louisiana State Patrol and the Smith County Texas Sheriff’s Office for their efforts on bringing these individuals to justice,” Taylor said.
MPD announced the arrests late last week and had not offered any updates on when the suspects will be extradited.
They are wanted here for using fake currency to buy gift cards at a grocery store that same day. All three suspects will remain in custody at the Smith County Detention Center as they await criminal proceedings there.
“The Madison Police Department has placed a hold on all three suspects,” Taylor said.
Fisher will be charged with felony false pretense and felony conspiracy, Taylor said. He said Marlitta and Tylec Williams will be charged with conspiracy for their role in the fraud.
On March 25, at approximately 7 p.m., the Madison Police Department was notified by Kroger on Highway 51 that a customer, earlier in the day, had passed several counterfeit bills to purchase gift cards in the store, Taylor said.
Officers with the Madison Police Department arrived on scene and were able to identify a suspect description along with the suspect vehicle.
“The suspect vehicle was described as a Silver Kia Soul with a North Carolina tag and that information was then passed onto departments in Louisiana and Texas,” Taylor said.
Officers also learned that these same suspects committed similar crimes at other Kroger grocery stores in the metro area and are currently in contact with each respected jurisdiction, Taylor said.
At about 11 p.m., the Madison Police Department was notified that the vehicle had been located and stopped by the Smith County Sheriff’s Office in Texas where the three suspects were taken into custody on charges in that jurisdiction.
