MADISON — A Clinton man was apprehended while another man remains at large after law enforcement officers here pursued a stolen vehicle into Gluckstadt last Friday, the authorities said.

Madison Police Capt. Kevin Newman has identified the man apprehended as Desmond Deonte Lindsey, 22, of Clinton. He was charged with felony receiving stolen property, felony fleeing from law enforcement and disorderly conduct.

Newman said another suspect who was with Lindsey and fled on foot has not been apprehended or identified. Newman said some evidence suggests the man who has not been identified may be fugitive Joseph Wesley Spring or an associate.

“Note that we have not officially determined that the male we are currently looking for in Gluckstadt is Spring,” Newman said. “Only that the stolen car has been linked to Spring.”

Spring is one of two escapees from the Hinds County Detention Center in Raymond on May 29.

On Friday, June 2, at about 6:26 a.m. a Madison Police officer identified a stolen Honda Accord traveling northbound on I-55 in Madison, according to Newman. Upon trying to stop the vehicle the driver fled north on I-55 and a pursuit ensued.

The vehicle was occupied by two male subjects, Newman said.

The stolen vehicle exited I-55 at Gluckstadt and proceeded east about a quarter of a mile near the intersection of Gluckstadt Road and Industrial Drive. The driver stopped the vehicle and the two males fled on foot into a wooded area, Newman said.

The stolen vehicle was believed to be associated with the recent escapee still at large from the Hinds County Detention Center in Raymond.

Officers and deputies from the Gluckstadt Police Department, Madison County Sheriff’s Office and Mississippi Highway Patrol air support assisted with the manhunt.

A perimeter was established in the wooded area and a search began using officers and police K-9s. One of the male subjects was apprehended in the wooded area.

“The other male subject is still at large and was last seen wearing all dark clothing,” Newman said.

Spring is about 32 years old and is described as a white male, 5 feet 8 inches with blonde hair and blue eyes. He has multiple tattoos on his body and neck, according to Crime Stoppers.

He was incarcerated for probation violation, possession of a stolen weapon and burglary.

Spring escaped along with another inmate identified as Michael Lewis who was apprehended later that day.

Newman said anyone who sees someone matching the remaining suspect’s description or acting suspiciously should dial 9-1-1.

If you know the whereabouts of Joseph Spring, please call Central MS Crime Stoppers, officials said. Anyone with information that leads to an arrest could be eligible for up to a $2,500 reward.
