Elbert "Buck" Hayes Guthrie
Elbert "Buck" Hayes Guthrie passed from his earthly life on August 13, 2024.
He was known to all as "Buck". Buck modeled his 88 years on earth after the apostle Paul's message in Acts 20:24... :Life is worth nothing unless I use it for doing the work assigned to me by the Lord Jesus - the work of telling others the good news about God's mighty kindness and love."
Born April 19, 1936, to Walter and Jenny Elizabeth Guthrie. He had a career with Mississippi Chemical Corporation. Buck was also known for his love of baseball. Many lasting memories and lifelong relationships were made from his coaching years.
He was a member of First Baptist Church Madison where he served as a deacon and numerous ministries. His passion was to serve others.

Buck is survived by his wife of 68 years, Deseree "Rea" Guthrie; son, Steven (Lori) Guthrie of Baton Rouge, LA; daughters, Cindy (Petey) Walker and Cheryl (Todd) Gordon of Madison, MS; grandchildren, Emily Dees (Alex) Bandin of Casa Grande AZ, Chad (Rachel) Walker of Cartersville GA, Sonny (Morgan) Walker of Mobile AL, Hayes and Hannah Gordon of Madison MS, Amber Gordon of Vicksburg MS; Micahlyn Guthrie of Baton Rouge LA, Macy (Josh) Barrios of Salt Lake City, UT; also, 15 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren; sister, Dot Williamson of Madison MS; brother, Herb Guthrie of Clinton MS, and several nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents; in-laws, Tommy and Juanita Smith; sisters, Annie Ward, Clarence Davis, Betty Davis, Carolyn Hardy; brothers, Clifton Guthrie and Bud Guthrie.

Visitation was from 9:30-11am on Saturday, August 17, 2024 at First Baptist Church Madison. A Celebration of Life service was at 11am with a private burial to follow.
