EDITORIAL/Big Garbage suing taxpayers

A multi-million dollar garbage company seeking to locate in west Ridgeland what would become Madison County’s third landfill is — wait for it — suing Madison County for $60 million.

These garbage goons are alleging breach of contract after county supervisors earlier this year simply decided not to conduct a new solid waste study that, in effect, killed the garbage company’s plans.

MDEQ had ordered the study amid the dispute over the landfill permitting process over decades.

NCL Waste LLC filed suit in Madison County Circuit Court on Sept. 9 — and they don’t stand a chance against competent legal counsel.

Part of NCL’s legal argument hinges on what a previous board in 2002 pledged in the future, which won’t stand.

Supervisors last week approved hiring a top-rated medical malpractice attorney from Grenada, Robert J. Dambrino III with the firm Gore Kilpatrick & Dambrino PLLC, to assist Board Attorney Mike Espy with the litigation — presumably as Espy continues to campaigns for Congress.

Dambrino’s rate of pay is $200 per hour   (The supervisors really had to go outside of Madison County for the best legal counsel?)

A multi-million-dollar garbage company is attempting to bully county taxpayers and supervisors better put up a good fight.
