Ed Robin “Buddy” Mangum died peacefully surrounded by loved ones on Saturday, November 26, 2022. Buddy was born in Magee, MS February 7, 1943. 

After his father’s death, his mother moved he and his sister Beth to Jackson. He attended Duling, Bailey, and Murrah where he was voted “most handsome.” He as a Sigma Chi at Mississippi State and graduated in 1966. He was in ROTC and commissioned an officer. Buddy and his wife spent two years in Bangkok  shopping and bargaining for the generals wives who were stationed in Vietnam. After returning to the States he worked for Deposit Guaranty, Mississippi Stationary Company and the Patterson Company from which he retired. He was also known as “Poppa Bear” the founder of Bears and Beavers men’s luncheon club. 

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Irene, and two daughters, Keller Mangum Wray (Heath) and Robyn Mangum. Eight grandchildren: Katy Keller, Cade, Cassidy and Malli Wray; Holland, John Carey, Cael and Houston Hearn; and his sister, Elizabeth Mangum Johnson of Carrollton, GA.  

He was a grateful member of AA for 34 years. Memorials can be made to Chapel of the Cross in Madison, St. James’ Episcopal Church Jackson or Alcoholics Anonymous. 

A Requiem Eucharist was celebrated November 29, 2022, at St. James’ Episcopal Church.
