Self-guided tour of Reservoir Botanical Gardens available


A free self-guided tour for families and individuals to enjoy based on the new children’s book “Discover the Pearl” will be held at the Reservoir Botanical Gardens, mornings and afternoons, Oct. 15 through Nov. 21.

The tour will highlight pages from the book detailing the history, importance of water quality, wildlife and conservation of the Reservoir and the Pearl River.  

Pearline, the book’s pirate narrator, will be featured leading guests through the historic gardens.  Pearline’s pirate friends will be on site Thursdays, 9-11 a.m. & 4-6 p.m.; Fridays from 4 -6 p..m. and Saturdays from 9-11 a.m. , weather permitting  & consideration of daylight savings time.   

Come enjoy the beautiful outdoors during the pandemic while learning about the Pearl River and Reservoir.  The nature trail is a .06 mile paved loop featuring native trees, ferns, and 50+ year old beautiful ornamental shrubs and native plants.  KRB will be follow the Governor’s Executive Orders for COVID 19 and masks are required at the gate.  The Reservoir Botanical Gardens are located at 2230 Spillway Rd.  The Gardens’ entry is located in the back right corner of the parking lot  next to the Rankin County Community  Center, Reservoir Fire Station and Northwest Rankin Library.

Martha Bracken, President of the Reservoir Botanical Garden Club states, “The Reservoir Botanical Garden Club is honored to be hosting this event with Keep the Reservoir Beautiful.  The Gardens are enjoyed by many who live and volunteer in the area and others who visit.”  “Please visit us for this one of a kind event and we hope you become a new  friend of the Gardens.”
