MANNSDALE — A daycare worker has been arrested and charged with child abuse in connection with a November incident northwest of Madison.

Ruby Mae Wilkerson, 53, was arrested on one felony count of child abuse around 11 a.m. on Tuesday, said Madison County Sheriff’s Department Spokesman Heath Hall.

Wilkerson’s bond is pending an initial appearance in justice court, Hall said.

Other news organizations have reported that the victim is a female approximately 3 years old. However, Hall said Tuesday that he could not confirm the victim’s age or gender.

The alleged incident happened on Friday, Nov. 19, at the Kid’s World Center off of Highway 463 in Madison County between Annandale and Livingston.

The child’s mother, Katorra Lewis, first posted about the incident on social media. Her post includes a video of the alleged incident.

“She should be ashamed of herself,” Lewis wrote in the social media post last month. “This is facts please share and pay attention to your child because my daughter was innocent and being abuse by a teacher you suppose to trust! I can’t take this no more.”

She also posted pictures of her daughter with a welt on her face, allegedly from the incident in question.
