Suspect wanted in the shooting of a Jackson police officer in custody

A dangerous suspect wanted in connection with an officer-involved shooting in Jackson was the subject of an Emergency Alert some Madison countians received late Thursday night and is in custody, the authorities said.

Nathaniel Garner is believed to be in the area of Rondo Street and Erie Street in west Jackson due west of Millsaps College and Bailey Avenue, according to the alert sent at about 10 p.m.

"The Blue Alert issued for Nathaniel Garner has been canceled," the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation said in a release about 11:30 p.m. "He is in custody. Any inquiries should be directed to the Jackson Police Department."

Garner is wanted in connection with the officer-involved shooting in Jackson Thursday at about 5:52 p.m.

“Please take immediate precautions and notify 911 if you see Nathaniel Garner or observe any suspicious activity,” the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation said in a news release at 9:45 p.m.

Garner is described as black male 25 years of age, five feet and ten inches tall, weighing 170 pounds, with brown eyes and a black mini afro.

He was last seen at Sunset Apartments in Jackson on Thursday at approximately 8:30 p.m. and was wearing a white tank top and blue jeans.

Nathaniel Garner may be traveling in an unknown vehicle or is on foot, MBI said
