MRA basketball star Erick Dampier Jr. captured a gold medal with the USA U16 National team at the FIBA AmeriCup last week.

Dampier Jr. was one of the key contributors for Team USA in the quest for its gold medal and started all six games throughout the tournament that was held in Juarez, Mexico.

The 6’10 15-year old was dominant on the interior for Team USA throughout the competition, averaging 7.7 points per game, 6.7 rebounds per game, and 1.3 blocks per game. Dampier Jr. also tallied four steals, eight assists, and shot 66.67 percent from the field en route to the gold medal. His best game of the tournament came against the Dominican Republic, tallying 12 points, 8 rebounds, and a block.

Dampier Jr. was a part of an absolutely dominant Team USA squad, picking up victories over Mexico, Dominican Republic, Argentina, Brazil, Puerto Rico, and Canada. The closest game for Team USA in the tournament was the 37-point win over Canada in the championship game and the squad swept through the tournament with an average margin of victory of 58.6 points.

As a result of his performance with Team USA, Dampier Jr. has seen his recruitment pick up in recent days. He has picked up offers from Southern Miss, Mississippi State, Jackson State, Purdue, and San Diego all since June 11th. His recruitment will likely continue to pick up over the summer, as he plays for the Alabama Fusion on the prestigious Nike EYBL circuit.

Dampier Jr. has made waves at a national level and has seen his recruiting ranking skyrocket over the summer, making his way all the way up to being the third-ranked recruit in the entire nation for the class of 2028.

While Dampier Jr. is asserting himself as one of the top basketball players of the country, he still has three years of high school basketball remaining and the sky will be the limit for him in the coming years.
