The COVID-19 vaccine will be available today, Jan. 15, at the Madison County Health Department in Canton and registration is required.

The state of Mississippi is currently giving COVID19 immunizations for the following:

• All healthcare workers and EMT/paramedics

• Persons age 65 or older

• Persons age 18-64 with pre-existing conditions

People must sign up online or call 1-877-978-6453 to make an appointment.

The Madison County Health Department is located at 309 N Hickory St, Canton, MS 39046.

The vaccine is also available at Baptist Medical Group located at 2173 Main Street in Madison, according to the Mississippi State Department of Health.

The number of deaths in Madison County continue to increase as another 10 were reported in the last week, bringing the total here to 156.

Meanwhile, new cases continue a roller coaster trend with this past week on the downward end.

Only 386 new cases were reported in the last week, a nearly 25-percent decrease in new cases from the week before.

The total number of cases in Madison County now stands at 7,937. Only Rankin, Jackson, DeSoto, Hinds and Harrison counties have reported more cases than Madison.

According to the MSDH, 80 students at Madison-Ridgeland Academy were quarantined last week, the first week classes resumed since Christmas break. Germantown High School had 52 students quarantined. Over 140 students throughout the county were quarantined at other schools. 

Madison County remains under a mandatory mask ordinance issued by Gov. Tate Reeves until Jan. 15, 2021.

On Wednesday, the MSDH identified 1,942 new cases of COVID-19 across the state with 31 new deaths.

In total, 243,899 cases have been reported across the state with 5,315 deaths.
