Committee appointed after Gluckstadt clerk position draws 50 resumes

GLUCKSTADT — A committee has been appointed to review more than 50 resumes received after the mayor and board advertised the City Clerk position.

Officials agreed to appoint a three-person committee to review the applicants that will report back to the full board.

"We should narrow those down to 5-8 candidates since I personally looked through the resumes and some of them consist of five or six lines; no effort. We should boil all of those down,” Mayor Walter Morrison told aldermen Tuesday night during a regular meeting held in the cafetorium of Germantown High School.

Aldermen unanimously agreed to appoint the committee composed of Morrison and aldermen John Taylor and Jayce Powell to sort through the resumes and narrow them down to the top eight and report back at a future meeting.

In other matters during Tuesday’s meeting, the board:

• Discussed possible locations for City Hall offices and a boardroom. Morrison presented three locations: 113 Dees Drive, 115 Aulenbrock Drive, and 343 Distribution Drive. Aldermen unanimously approved a motion to inspect each property in groups of two and make a final decision on a property at a later date. 

• The board decided to continue to review and discuss the adoption of the Madison County Zoning Ordinance and Map. Morrison suggested the Gluckstadt Planning and Zoning Commission Board appoint a chairperson before the board approves adopting of the Madison County Ordinance as the city’s ordinance. 

• Approved BankPlus as the official bank for the Gluckstadt Mayor and Board of Aldermen to withdraw and deposit city funds. 

• Unanimously approved holding a contest for people to submit logo proposals for the City of Gluckstadt after Alderman Lisa Williams suggested the idea in the form of a motion. Williams said she will post updates on social media regarding the contest at a later date.
