‘Come Together’ for Diabetes

‘Come Together’ for Diabetes

Posted

As the Beatles would say, “Come together, right now”—for diabetes! At this extraordinary time for all of us, the needs of those living with diabetes across the state are skyrocketing, and our work at the Diabetes Foundation of Mississippi (DFM) is more critical than ever.

Since Covid-19 appeared, the number of children diagnosed in the state has risen dramatically. Also, due to massive layoffs the need for patient assistance has spiked, with many unable to afford lifesaving medicines and supplies.

So to help us continue providing emergency assistance, as well as emotional support and crucial information to those seeking our help during the pandemic and beyond, we are relocating our annual fundraising walks online. After all, most of our walkers have diabetes and we want to keep everyone safe and healthy!

From Oct. 1 through the end of the month, the entire state is invited to “Come together for Diabetes. So please gather a small group of family and friends, four legged companions and get ready to walk, run, skate or cycle with us for an urgent cause. And send us your videos and photos to help create the virtual event to msdiabetespr@gmail.com

The DFM will go live with the Walk on Facebook and Instagram with the Walk on Oct. 1, but you have through the 31st to complete your fundraising. The DFM is committed to caring for every child, every adult and every family living with diabetes. Eighty-nine cents of every dollar goes toward the DFM’s charitable purpose, the highest percentage of any diabetes organization in Mississippi, (Secretary Of State: “Report on Charitable Organizations in Mississippi,” published October, 2019).

“Mississippi’s Walk for Diabetes brings attention to a disease that affects a large part of our state’s population, said Mary Fortune, DFM Executive Vice President, “While we envision a world without type 1 or type 2 diabetes, there is no better way to promote health and awareness than by joining us for our 2020 virtual walk. Come together with the DFM for diabetes!”For further information on how the online event will work and other FUNdraising ideas, please call the DFM at 601-957-7878. Or visit msdiabetes.org

*Please follow U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidelines and local health recommendations when teaming up with anyone outside of your household.
