Clarence Melvin Ray was born on June 6, 1939, in Raytown, MS and he passed away on June 24, 2021. His parents were Clarence Greaves Ray and Joycie Vance Ray. A celebration of life was held June 29, 2021 at First Baptist Church in Canton, MS, where he was a member for 55 years.

He is survived by Ruth Brooks Ray, his wife of 57 years; his children, Jeffrey Ray and Leigh Ann Irby (Tal) and two grandchildren, Cole Irby (Bailey) and Leah Brooke Irby (Brayden Brumfield). Surviving siblings are Modena Henry (Leon) and Alma Gunter, special cousin, Charlotte Biedenharn. He is also survived by many beloved nieces and nephews.

Melvin Ray served as assistant Superintendent of Madison County schools for 20 years and as Superintendent for 10 years. His many accomplishments include building Madison Central High School and Madison Avenue Elementary School which opened up the way for great growth in southern Madison County. Melvin was actively involved in his church, Lions Club, coffee club, Commissioner on the board of Region 8 Mental Health, and taught classes for alcohol safety for 35 years.
