City officials hope to revive GermanFest celebration
GLUCKSTADT — Community leaders hope to revive the popular outdoor GermanFest this fall.
Mayor Walter Morrison said at the city board meeting earlier this month he would like to see the tradition continue.
“This is an important tradition for the community, and we want to see it continue,” Morrison said at the meeting.
Morrison went on to say he was “encouraged” that it could be revived as early as this fall.
GermanFest is traditionally held on the last Sunday in September on the grounds of St. Joseph Catholic Church off of Church Road.
Morrison said he has spoken to representatives of the church, and they have expressed interest in continuing the tradition.
The 2023 edition of the festival was canceled and no event was held in 2024. At the time, church officials said the event was canceled due to parking concerns. That would have been the 36th iteration of the event.
