City celebrates opening of new police complex
City officials celebrated the opening of the new $8 million Gluckstadt Police Station and Municipal Court building earlier this month with a ceremony honoring veterans and first responders.
The special event was hosted by the Madison County First Responders Fund at the brand-new police station and court building at 140 Gluckstadt Way on Sunday, Nov. 17. This is the first building built by the city of Gluckstadt.
Mayor Walter Morrison spoke at the event and called the opportunity a “privilege.”
The new building is estimated to be around 14,000 square feet and will house the Municipal Court, holding cells, dispatch, and offices. The building itself will cost about $6.9 million, not counting the costs after dispatch is implemented, along with furnishing and access control.
The project broke ground late last summer.
According to Gluckstadt Police Chief Barry Hale, the relocation to the new building from the current Gluckstadt City Hall Building at 343 Distribution Drive was effective Monday, Nov. 25.
Monday, November 25 was the first official day for court services to be open to pay tickets and fines, Hale said.
Monday, December 2, will be the next court date at the new Police Department Building, Hale said.
“The notices for court have already been sent out,” Hale said.
