Christmas parade set for Dec. 9
The Lucky City will host its second annual Christmas parade organized by Jeannie Robinson a week from Saturday.
The Dec. 9 parade will start at 9 a.m. at Germantown High School and will turn onto the Calhoun Station Parkway, where it will head south. The parade will then turn left on Gluckstadt Way at Callaway’s and head back to Germantown High School using the back entrance.
Robinson said she hopes the event will become a staple in the city’s developing Christmas traditions.
“We hope to use the same loop year after year,” Robinson said.
Robinson said the route anticipates a future downtown for Gluckstadt and will go by the future sites of the proposed Gluckstadt Police Station and City Hall.
Robinson took the idea of a Christmas parade to Mayor Walter Morrison and the city board of Aldermen last year in October. She said she was promptly assigned to chair the event.
“It has been stressful at times but I have thoroughly enjoyed putting the parade together,” She said.
Last year’s parade featured around 30 floats from throughout the community and included a number of police departments from around the state and the Germantown High School marching band. Robinson said she hopes the event can continue to grow from there.
Robinson is the owner of Lagniappe Gifts in the shopping center at 102 Dees Drive in Gluckstadt.
