Madison will be welcoming Chicken Salad Chick next spring.

Set to open before the end of April 2020, the chain restaurant will be located in the same shopping center as the Sleep Number mattress store on Main Street near Lowe's.

Chicken Salad Chick received approval from the Madison Mayor and Board of Aldermen last week.

The restaurant is just the latest commercial development by Ted Duckworth in an area which already includes the Sleep store, Academy Sports and Outdoors and Hobby Lobby.

"I think everyone is most definitely excited about the addition of Chicken Salad Chick," Madison Director of Community Development Kianca Stringfellow said. "In terms of what is developing near Academy and our conversations with Mr. Duckworth, everything is developing as we hoped it would."

In other action, aldermen:

• Voted to approve the final plat for the Fontanelle subdivision, Phase 2-B

• Approved a special exception for a telecommunications tower/facility at Madison Ave. Upper Elementary.

• Authorized Alderman Guy Bowering to attend the Mississippi Municipal League 2020 Mid-Winter Legislative Conference in Jackson.

• Authorized two Madison Fire Department employees to attend the Mississippi Office of Homeland Security seminar in Starkville.

• Authorized City Building Inspector Shayne Perry to attend the 2019 Winter Building Officials of Mississippi conference in Oxford.

• Swore in four new members of the police force— Raven Terry, Michael Campbell and Felicia Hamilton and police officer Bryce McCarra.
