Charles Harrison Hayes, Sr.

Charles Harrison Hayes, Sr. of Madison, devoted husband, loving father, and adoring grandfather and great-grandfather, passed away April 19, 2022, after a lengthy illness. 

Services were held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Canton on April 22, 2022. Burial followed in Canton Cemetery. 

Mr. Hayes was born on August 8, 1937, one of seven at the family home in Sulphur Springs, MS to Marguerite Whelan Hayes and Thomas Stanford Hayes, Sr. He was a parishioner of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Canton, MS. 

He enjoyed owning his own business, Hayes Glass, Company in Canton, MS. Mr. Hayes' daughter, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren lovingly referred to him as Pop. 

Charles was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers and sisters, Thomas Sandford Hayes, Jr., Benjamin Muse Hayes, Peter Whelen Hayes; Sister Mary Thomasita Hayes, Allie Hayes Tagg, and Marguerite Hayes Jarrell; and son, Thad Lea. 

Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Bobbye Bates Hayes; his daughter, Lori Lea, his grandchildren Amanda Franklin (Eddie), Patrick Grissett (Jessica); and his great-grandchildren, Morgan Grissett, Avery Franklin, and Edgar Franklin, his son, Chuck Hayes (Rose), granddaughter, Jennifer Rushing  (Zack), and great-grandson, James Rushing, along with many nieces and nephews. 

Memorials may be sent to the Alzheimer's Association.
