CELEBRATING STEM IN SEPTEMBER C Spire presents Mississippi Science Festival

The Mississippi Science Festival (MSF), presented by C Spire, is the LeFleur Museum District's (LMD) signature event which will take place on September 19-21, 2019. After drawing over 4,500 visitors in 2018, MSF has been recognized by the Mississippi Tourism Association as "Small Festival of the Year" and a "Top 20 Event" by the Southeast Tourism Society.

MSF aims to introduce new educational opportunities in STEM industries to Mississippi children in hopes of bringing about a brighter future for the residents and upcoming workforce of our state. This event features three days full of science exploration and activities, with exhibitors stationed across all four LMD museums – the Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame and Museum, the Mississippi Agriculture & Forestry Museum, the Mississippi Children's Museum, and the MDWFP's Mississippi Museum of Natural Science.

This year, six separate events will take place over three days:



C3 Jr. Coding

Challenge presented by C Spire

September 19

Fifteen teams from across the state have been invited to the Mississippi Children's Museum to participate in C3 Jr, a coding challenge uniquely designed for elementary age students. Teams comprised of four fourth grade students will be guided through coding challenges by a C Spire Mentor, treated to lunch compliments of C Spire, and participate in an awards ceremony at the conclusion of the challenge.



Science After 6

September 19
6 p.m. – 7:30 p.m.

The community is invited to help kick off the 4th Annual MSF at one of Jackson's coolest gathering spots, Cultivation Food Hall, for Science After 6. Tickets are $5 each and include bits and bytes by Cultivation Food Hall vendors and one signature cocktail compliments of Gold Coast Bar and Cathead Distillery. This event is sponsored by C Spire and Southern Farm Bureau.



Field Trip Friday

September 20

9 a.m. – 1 p.m.

In partnership with MSF, the four LMD museums are inviting students to attend a special STEM-themed Field Trip Friday. The museums will host a day dedicated to promoting STEM subjects and increasing science literacy for field trip guests. Students attending Field Trip Friday will have an opportunity to participate in hands-on experiments, interactive exhibits, and see classroom science lessons come to life. CSI Mississippi

September 20

6 p.m. – 7:30 p.m.

MSF is proud to host CSI: Mississippi, a new MSF event which will feature a behind-the-scenes look at the career of Forensic Scientist George Schiro, Mississippi's very own CSI investigator. This free event will take place at the MS Agriculture and Forestry Museum's Sparkman Auditorium. Children and adults are invited to hear details from Schiro's investigative cases, some of which have been featured on nationally televised crime shows.



Mississippi Science Fest

September 21
9 a.m. – 4 p.m.

All four LMD museums will host a day dedicated to promoting STEM subjects and increasing science literacy. Children and families will have the opportunity to interact with nationally renowned STEM professionals, engage in hands-on activities, and explore exciting experiments and exhibits. On this special day, visitors can purchase a $10 ticket allowing them to visit and participate in MSF festivities at all four LMD museums. A free shuttle will be provided between museums and food vendors will be onsite throughout the day at all museums. To purchase tickets go to www.mssciencefest.org.

Discovery Night: Experiment with Us!

Saturday, September 21; 6:00 pm – 9:00 pm

Discovery Night: Experiment with Us is MCM's signature family fundraising event hosted by MCM Partners. Held to coincide with MSF, this special evening will celebrate the fascinating world of STEM and is perfect for the whole family to enjoy. Discovery Night will feature fantastic food and drinks, musical entertainment with DJ Adam, bounce houses and an obstacle course, and a raffle. To purchase tickets go to www.mschildrensmuseum.org.
