Sheriff’s deputies arrested a man following a carjacking in Deerfield this weekend.

Blakeland Dion Mitchell, 18, was arrested and charged with armed carjacking, possession of a stolen firearm, fleeing a law enforcement vehicle, reckless driving and other traffic violations.

Madison County Sheriff’s Office Spokesman Heath Hall said that they received a call on Sunday, Aug. 30, at 1:26 p.m. regarding a carjacking in the Deerfield subdivision.

“Deputies arrived on scene and quickly located the vehicle,” Hall said.

A chase then ensued where the suspect, identified as Mitchell, crashed out on Hart Road in Canton. That was followed by officers pursuing Mitchell on foot and apprehending him.

“A short foot chase began,” Hall said. “But deputies quickly arrested him.”

Jail records show he was booked into the Madison County Detention Center before 3 p.m.

A gun was found in the car that law enforcement has determined to be stolen.

Mitchell remains in the Madison County Detention Center on a $5,000 bond for the carjacking/attempted carjacking charge, $5,000 bond for fleeing law enforcement, $1,000 for possession of a stolen firearm, and $700 on two traffic offenses.
