Canton woman killed in fatal wreck in North Madison County

A fatal wreck involving three vehicles north of Canton on I-55 southbound claimed the life of a local woman late Wednesday night, Mississippi Highway Patrol Troop C Cpl. Kervin Stewart confirmed.

The fatality has been identified as Teresa A. Gaines 40, of Canton.

Stewart said that at approximately 7 p.m., on October 30, MHP was advised of a three-vehicle crash on I-55 north of Canton in Madison County. The crash involved two tractor trailers and a Honda Civic.

"Preliminary reports indicate that all three vehicles were traveling southbound, when the crash occurred," Stewart said.

The drivers of the tractor trailers were not injured. Gaines, who was identified as the driver of the Honda Civic, died as a result of her injuries.

This crash is currently under investigation and more information will be released pending the outcome of the investigation.

Stewart said that weather is a possible factor in the wreck.
