CANTON — Police here are looking for leads following a fatal shooting reported last week during a home invasion on North West Street, the authorities said.

“This is an ongoing investigation and we have no leads or motives at this time,” Canton Police Chief Otha Brown said.

Brown said his department was called around 8 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 22, to the intersection of North Canal Street and North West Street where police found a man who had suffered multiple gunshot wounds.

The man has been identified as 27-year-old Harry Readus. Brown said Readus was then transported to Merit Health in Canton where he was pronounced dead.

Brown said Readus encountered the gunman at 303 North Canal Street where he was staying. The gunmen had entered through a rear door and was rummaging through the property before encountering Readus.

Brown said that nothing has been reported stolen from the property though there was evidence that things inside had been “disturbed.”

CPD is looking for further information and is hoping someone with information related to the shooting will come forward “so we can give his family some closure,” Brown said.

Brown said those with information are encouraged to call CPD at 601-859-3673 or Crime Stoppers at 601-355-8477.
