Canton High School announced the hiring of Dameon Brown from Callaway as the school’s 32nd head football coach this week.

Brown has held three coaching positions in the last ten years, spending the last five years as the head coach at Callaway, three years as an assistant at Callaway, and two years as head coach at Powell Middle School.

“Canton Public School District is proud to announce Mr. Dameon Brown as its new

Canton High School Head Football Coach for the 2025-2026 school year,” Canton Athletic Director Melissa Word said in a statement. “Coach Brown comes to Canton with five years as Head Coach at Callaway, three years as assistant coach at Callaway, and two years as Head Coach at Powell Middle School.”

Brown compiled a 20-26 record in five years at Callaway and led the Chargers to the playoffs in the last three years consecutively. Brown’s only playoff wins as a head coach came in the first round in 2022 over Lafayette.

Brown replaces Calvin Bolton, who resigned in March to take the head coaching job at Unity Reed High School in Manassas, Virginia. Bolton spent the last eight seasons at Canton, compiling a 43-44 record, and led Canton to the playoffs three times, including their first playoff win in school history last season.

With MHSAA realignment coming this year, Callaway and Canton will be region opponents in Region 2-6A. The two teams are set to square off on Thursday, October 9th at Hughes Field in Jackson for their region matchup.
