Calvin Bolton retires at Canton
Canton Football Head Coach Calvin Bolton announced his retirement, after leading the program since 2017.
Bolton finished with a 43-44 record in eight seasons at the helm for the Tigers, taking Canton to the playoffs three times.
While Canton is traditionally known for their basketball program, Bolton made some real progress this season, leading the Tigers to an 8-4 record this year and winning the first playoff game in school history this year over New Hope.
Canton finished third in their region last season behind Cleveland Central and Holmes County Central. Bolton took region champions Cleveland Central to the brink in the second round of the playoffs, falling 27-26 with a chance to win the game on a two-point conversion.
Canton played in 5A during Bolton’s tenure in some extremely tough regions, yet he was able to lead the Tigers to four winning seasons in his time at the helm of the program.
Bolton spent a majority of his career in Madison County, also spending nearly 14 seasons as an assistant with the Ridgeland football program.
Canton should be an appealing position going forward with the momentum Bolton has created and the returning talent that the Tigers will presumably have going forward, which features wide receiver Jayden Cration, who holds multiple offers from power conference college programs.
Canton has yet to make an announcement on who will replace Bolton.
