After a 13-month battle with leukemia, Burke Campbell Murphy, JR. (Bucky) entered the presence of our Heavenly Father on April 9, 2023 at his home in Canton, MS. He was a loving husband, father, Gramps and friend.

Bucky was born on April 9, 1952, and was raised in Starkville, MS. He graduated from Starkville High School and Mississippi State University before acquiring his Juris Doctor at the University of Mississippi in 1977. After a short stint at a local law firm, Bucky began working for the Mississippi State Medical Association in the government relations department. In 1988, he began his own contract lobbying firm, where he worked with state legislators. He continued this work throughout his illness.

He loved hunting, being outside, the Bulldogs and time spent with family and friends. His community involvement included President of the School Board at Canton Academy, deacon and choir member at FBC Canton, a founding member of the Mississippi River Landowners Alliance and served on the board of the Recovery Lodge.

Bucky is preceded in death by his parents Burke and Lou Murphy. He leaves behind his precious wife of 44 years, Alice, his children, Camp, Bo (Emily), Dees (Jody) and eight grandchildren: Gray and John Burke Murphy of Madison; Reid, William and Mabry Murphy of Houston, Texas; Mamie, Rachel and Caleb Britt of Madison.

Visitation was Tuesday, April 11, from 4-7pm at the Murphy residence: 14 Montgomery Lane, Canton, MS. Visitation was also be Wednesday, April 12, from 1pm until the 2 pm memorial service at Pinelake Madison.

In Lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Mississippi Blood Services, 115 Tree Street, Flowood, MS 39232. The family asks those who are able continue to donate blood products regularly.
