Bragg represents GHS during recent trip to Japan
Germantown High School junior Tate Bragg recently returned from a weeklong trip to Japan that included a presentation on economics at Tokyo University.
Tate was recommended for this honor by his AP Econ teacher Christy Walker. Walker said they had a relatively short turnaround for the trip.
“I think I contacted Tate and his parents on Dec. 4 and within a few days he had his passport,” Walker said.
Bragg was one of only three Mississippians selected to participate in the Junior Economic Forum at Tokyo University being hosted by the Council for Economic Education in Japan in conjunction with the Mississippi Council for Economic Education.
Brag landed in Japan on Feb. 12 and returned to the United States on Feb. 19.
During the trip, Bragg gave his presentation on entrepreneurship and how economics can inform the decisions we make daily.
“I like economics because it is something you can apply to your daily life,” Bragg said.
During the week long trip in addition to the academic exchange, Bragg said they visited a number of temples in Tokyo and Kyoto.
“We got to do some sightseeing and eat a lot of food,” Bragg said. “Our tour guides were awesome and they showed us so many cool places.”
Bragg said a highlight of the trip was the Golden Pavilion, a Zen Buddhist temple that is only open to the public for about three weeks a year, and the view of Mount Fuji from his seat in the bullet train between Tokyo and Kyoto.
Bragg is the son of Morgan and David Bragg.
