Board hires firm to design city park
GLUCKSTADT — City officials have engaged a Madison firm to develop conceptual designs and cost estimates for the proposed park here off the Calhoun Station Parkway.
Mayor Walter Morrison said this is “a great opportunity” to build a “beautiful park” in the city and said the first step is to get an idea of what the park would cost.
Public Works Director Chris Buckner, in a memo dated March 28, 2025, said the agreement would be for $20,000 with McMasters and Associates.
“This agreement would allow them to develop a more detailed conceptual design and an estimated construction cost for our park property on Calhoun Station Parkway, which would aid us in getting grants and having future conversations about funding,” Buckner said.
Initial designs were unveiled in July of last year.
The proposed park will be located on land donated to the city that sits off of Calhoun Station Parkway just south of Callaway’s Yard and Garden Center.
The donation came earlier in March of 2024. It came from the families of Lee Hutchinson and John Harreld, who have deep roots in the area, and was organized in part by commercial realtor Christi Greenlee.
Morrison called the contribution “generous and gracious.”
